This month we are talking a lot about “RESPONSIBILITY” at OCS. The crew in 4M has figured how they will be responsible in the upcoming new year (which is approaching very quickly!) in their homes, school and community. Everyone has some really great ideas about how they will be more responsible and the steps that they will take to accomplish that goal. Also, every morning, a student wraps up the morning announcement with one of the ways that they will be responsible and why it is important. The two ladies that have gone so far have done a fantastic job! Everyone will have the opportunity to address the whole school in the morning.
Also, in Language Arts we are finishing our friendly letters to send to Major Grosvenor, a physician’s assistant that has been assigned to Afghanistan to take care of our soldiers. We will be sending out the letters this weekend. If you would like to send a pack of candy/gum that would be great! Letters have been sent home today with more details.
On to the homework….
LANGUAGE ARTS:
**REMEMBER-BOOK REVIEWS ARE DUE DECEMBER 18-NO LATE REVIEWS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!**
1. Both Spelling groups have a word search to complete.
2. Buddy Read-“I Love Guinea Pigs”
*****Our fish have arrived! We waited so patiently ALL DAY and luckily received them towards the end of Science (good thing it was after the test). Check back tonight/tomorrow for some pictures of our new classmates!
Have a great night!

Happy December!
We are just so excited! Tomorrow, 4M is getting a special delivery! Some tropical fish will be joining our class in their new aquarium! We are very fortunate to have received this generous donation, along with other Science equipment from Rutgers University. Throughout the course of the year we will get to do more “hands-on” activities in our Science class thanks to RU and their MARE program! Come back and check for pictures of our new pets!

"The Mystery of the Missing Paragraph"
Who could have taken it and what were they doing taking a paragraph in the first place?
Today, we were treated to a fine production presented by the Warren County Vo-Tech. The Drama department presented OCS with a great mystery that included a nice lesson on creating strong paragraphs. The great actors kept us all very entertained and taught everybody a little something on such a valuable topic.

Halfway through our week!
Upon our return from our long weekend next week, we will begin unit 3 in Math. We will be working more with multiplication and with that we have been taking time in class to sharpen our facts! There are so many great games that go along with our Everyday Math curriculum and many can be done at home. Tonight for instance, students will need to play 3 rounds of "Multiplication Draw" with someone at home. It is a fun and simple way to practice these necessary facts! Also, flash cards would also be a great way to squeeze in some added practice at night.

I will post homework on the blog daily so that you may also have another source of reference.
Tonight's only homework is for parents/guardians! Being that we are starting a new school year, the kids went home with their folders filled of papers that mom, dad or another grown-up at home can fill out, sign and return. There are 7 papers in all that need to be returned. They are as follows:
*Emergency Contact
*Internet Use
*Automated Calling
*Early Closing

Hello again,
Since my first post, I have some exciting news to share with you. Last week I attended the MARE institute down in Tuckerton, NJ. It was a lot of fun and the teachers there learned a whole lot. I can not wait to share what I have learned with each of you. I was able to do a lot of neat things, like ride on a fishing boat, study eel grass (we'll be covering that this year!) and even held a baby shark. I have the pictures to prove it.
This week I have been able to get in and start setting up our classroom. As of today, it is starting to look like a classroom. I know Mr. Magnuson has been very good and setting up pictures of the school as it gets some work done. Now I know you are all eager to see what your new classroom looks like (so far).
Enjoy the pictures and rest up!
See you soon!

Hello Everybody!
Can you believe that we are in August already?! Summer is going by quickly, in only a matter of weeks we will be back at school! I just wanted to take a moment to welcome you to class.
WELCOME!
I believe that you have received a copy of my letter listing some items that would be great if you could bring to school with you on the first day.
They are as follows:
- 1 Pocket Folder: you can pick a fun design because this will be used for your homework folder!
- 4 Jumbo Sized Stretchy Book Covers (I have seen these at Walmart)
- 1 Zippered Pencil Case
- 1 Pair of Child-Sized Scissors
- 4-5 Pencils
Please check this blog from time to time throughout the summer, as I will be posting updates for your new class.
I hope you are all enjoying your summer and I can not wait to meet you all in September.
Feel free to contact me via school email: rmazzeo@oxfordcentral.org
See you soon!
